The Kanbar Institute of Film and Television is host to the William H. Cosby Future Filmmakers Workshop. The Workshop, led by Carlos de Jesus, associate professor of film and television, identifies gifted students from traditionally underrepresented groups in the industry and provides them with an intensive 12-week training program during which all aspects of filmmaking are taught. FREE to participants, over 150 applicants compete for 15 spaces in the program, which is held on Saturdays from February through May. Participants are Juniors in High School or younger, and hail from high schools in the five boroughs of New York City as well as from (but not limited to) Westchester County, Long Island, New Jersey, parts of Philadelphia and Connecticut.

The Workshop provides exposure to the profession through:

  • Hands-on experience in moviemaking techniques
  • Screenings and discussions of important professional works
  • Discussions with professional filmmakers and Tisch faculty

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Deadline is October 15th, 2011 for the application as well as recommendations and transcripts.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Strong previous interest and participation in the arts
  • Academic achievement
  • Ability to work as a team member in producing personal, visually dramatic projects projects
  • A firm commitment to completing the entire workshop, which will be held on twelve Saturdays from February through May

Fifteen students will be selected after review of application materials and an interview.

**Applications are reviewed mid-October. Selected students will be invited in mid to late December to come to Tisch for interviews taking place in January.
