H56.1022 Lecture 4 Credits
Course Level: Fundamental/Intermediate
Course may be repeated.
Through lectures, discussion, program viewing, projects, guests, and our own lives, this course explores the state of children's media for pre-schoolers to adolescents. We will consider the role television plays in regard to family and peer relationships, education and social issues. We will also examine the success and failure of the government and such media groups as ACT in regulating content. The goal is to understand how we have all been affected and how we can determine change for the next generation. Assignments will include interviews of children, critique of children's media, and a proposal for a children's program.
