Procedures for Non-Majors wishing to take Film Courses

If you are a student at NYU, but not a major in the Film & TV Department at Tisch School of the Arts...and you would like to take one of our courses during the Fall or Spring semesters, here is the Policy and Procedure:

POLICY - Film courses do not open to non-majors until the first day of classes and all film majors have enrolled. You must also have all the prerequisites (if any) for the course requested and meet all class restrictions.

PROCEDURE - Pick up a "Film & TV Permission Form" (the yellow one) from the large Forms Kiosk outside Room 1107 in the 721 Broadway building or download the form from this website. (Choose .PDF file on right)  Fill this in completely and have it signed by your department's advisor (or stamped if you are a Gallatin Student).

Return the completed form to Room 1107, the Film & TV Registration Office. We will honor the course requests in the order we receive them. Of course, if the course is closed already, we will let you know.  You should also watch on ALBERT to see if the course is closed.

Our registration office will call you as soon as we know that we can give class spaces to non-majors. Sometimes this is as late as the first day of class. You should put in alternate courses before then so that you will have as good a schedule as possible if you cannot enroll in the film class(es).  By processing this form, you are placed on an in-house manual waitlist in the order the forms were received.  Note: We never place non-film majors on actual ALBERT waitlists.

Please include any phone numbers where we can reach you other than your dorm or local number. (Holiday or summer temporary numbers?) We'd love to give you any available spaces you requested, but please help us by updating phone numbers!

Please be aware that ALL out-of-department students are assessed service fees when they register for a class in the Department of Film and Television (please refer to the back of the paper Film & TV Permission form found outside of Room 1107 for a listing of current fees in relation to the course requested.) These fees are not refundable.
