Prerequisites/Waivers

Students are expected to fulfill all prerequisites for Departmental courses. Prerequisites are waived by petitioning the professor who oversees a particular course (a list of Faculty Executive Directors and Directors of Study for specific areas within the department (production, writing, post-production, animation, camera, acting/directing and sound) can be found in the directory. Students must obtain the signature of that relevant Director of Study on a Film & TV Permission Notice and Waiver form; the student then hands in the filled-out form to the Room 1107 Registration Office. The Department has the right to drop any student from a course if they have not fulfilled the necessary prerequisites.

Sight & Sound:  Film & Television Waivers

Sight and Sound courses are the basics of the NYU production experience. Waiving one of these courses is a serious matter. The Department has therefore set in place the following procedure: The student requesting a waiver must submit a presentation of previous experience—a film reel or videocassette and a professional resume indicating the types of equipment in which he/she has experience and outlining the specific role(s) in the film or video productions. Students submit this package to the Executive Director of Production Studies, Prof. Rick Litvin. Submission of these materials must be submitted to Prof. Litvin as soon as possible, but certainly no less than six weeks before the relevant registration period. Approval or denial of this waiver will be retained in the student’s file.
